This project explored prop-making techniques through the recreation of two props from Monsters, Inc. the Scream Canister and Sulley’s hand. I focused on experimenting with different materials and construction methods to achieve recognisable forms, textures and finishes.

For the Scream Canister, I used a wide plastic pipe as the main structure and built up the form using foam. The foam was shaped and sanded to create the smooth, rounded edges of the original prop, before being finished with acrylic paint to replicate its colours and details.

For Sulley’s hand, I constructed the underlying form using wire and built it up with papier-mâché to create the shape and structure. Once dry, it was painted and finished with faux fur to recreate Sulley’s distinctive texture. I used clay to sculpt the nails, which were then added to complete the hand.
